Steorn’s Free Energy. A Dud or a Discovery of the Century?

What is Free Energy you might ask? Imagine never having to pay electricity to power appliances at home. Cellphones, laptops and gadgets never running out of power. Then apply the same technology to power cars and public transportation - including commercial planes, then we won’t ever have the need for fuel. Such breakthrough on energy could change the world forever. Science Fiction? Not according to Steorn.

Last year a trailblazing Irish company, Steorn, has claimed that they have discovered a technology to produce Free Energy. Steorn’s baffling free energy concept is breaking ingrained scientific laws of thermodynamics causing a huge stir in the science and technology community.

Orbo’s Free Energy - Is This the Holy Grail?

The Orbo is the real-life application of Steorn’s free energy technology. By manipulating magnetic fields, it creates a steady stream of energy. Energy that is free, clean and constant. Free because more energy is created that what’s needed to produce, clean because it has no emissions, and constant because, unless mechanical failure happens, it will infinitely produce energy.

However, the claims are blasphemous to the first Law of Thermodynamics states that:

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed; rather, the amount of energy lost in a steady state process cannot be greater than the amount of energy gained.”

Steorn’s Challenge

Last year in August, Steorn posted a challenge to the global scientific community to step forth and prove its claims wrong. 22 were selected to validate the technology and Steorn will publish the reviews near the end of 2007.

Live Demo of Steorn Orbo

A couple of days ago (July 4th) the stir caused by Steorn has turned into a giant whirpool of discussion and anticipation among the public. The company is providing a 10-Day Live Demo of the Orbo at Kinetica Museum in London. Live web streaming is available via 4 video cameras.

Unfortunately, the demonstration hasn’t started yet because of technical problems. On Steorn’s offical statement yesterday they said:

We are experiencing some technical difficulties with the demo unit in London. Our initial assessment indicates that this is probably due to the intense heat from the camera lighting. We have commenced a technical assessment and will provide an update later today.

Hanging in the Balance

There is no word yet today if the problem has been resolved. At the moment Steorn is faced with the challenge of disproving not just the Law of Thermodynamics but that of Murphy’s Law as well.

Steorn has guts and confidence in their technology judging by how they executed this massive and well-funded PR campaign. However, a back-up device would surely come in handy in times like this since it would hurt to see all the gusto end up in a disappointing publicity stunt.

If all goes well and somehow the optimist in me hopes it would, then great! I can’t begin to imagine how big of a leap this technology could propel our progress as a civilization. It will revolutionize every aspect of our lives and a lot of our modern day insurmountable challenges will cease to exist. Without a doubt, it will be the discovery, not just of the century, but of the millennium.

I’ll end this post with a video from the proponents of Steorn
